I've written four pages or so since the last entry, but I've been a little busy lately. I'd thought I'd take a moment to stop and explain exactly what I'm doing and what this blog is.
Generates: X-77, (the title may be changed later), is a reworking of the concepts for a novel, X-77, I wrote nearly fifteen years ago back in high school. Since then, there's been several re-writes and sequels, and spin-offs as you can say in various stages of completion and development.
The work itself could be classified as an adventure science fiction novel. It deals primarily with space/alternate reality exploration. It was inspired mainly by television shows like Star Trek: TNG and Sliders with a less-serious take like Red Dwarf. The other high concept is the idea of Generates, who are genetically engineered human beings who are not technically clones. They're grown and educated in vats and kept as a type of slave with few rights outside of the Corps they work for, despite being more physically and intellectually gifted than the average human.
The setting is in the far-flung future where humanity has already reached the outer limits of the universe and has gone on to explore alternate realities. Humans have never encountered alien life outside of the microbal in their own universe, but have found alternate forms of life in other universes parallel to our own. They mainly concern themselves with the more human-dominated realities with set systems and structures in place. Their aims are mainly economical with trade, but branch out into military conquest. Due to the risks and difficulties involved in there operations, Generates are the tools they use.
What's changed since the first inception is the ages and status of the key characters. They're younger now and less educated and with no experience. They're entering into an organization that's fallen apart and sent off on their own not knowing what to do. Trouble immediately ensues. This differs from the first concept where the characters were actively trying to rebel against their organization, despite their years of service. Most of the dialogue is about them asking each other questions and looking for guidance. They find themselves stranded on an alien world under unusual conditions and they're unsure if they should stay, or return home, if or if either scenario is possible.
The strange thing about this novel is that it doesn't contradict the previous ones, despite being a new, self-encompassed work. As it deals with alternate realities, the characters and events of previous novels still take place, albeit in other dimensions.
As for me, the author, if you want to know more about me, check out my alternate blog, http://iapprovedthisblog.blogspot.ca/ . (Yes, I am Canadian.)
